April Update / 2026
Progress Overview
On the structural front, steel erection is now underway for the back-of-house areas and the Aquatic Rehabilitation and Conservation Center (ARCC), marking the start to the vertical phase of construction. In another exciting milestone, the main ARCC slab on grade has been successfully poured. Looking ahead, delivery of the large-radius trusses for the Biodome is scheduled to begin in early May, which will be a truly dramatic sight as this iconic structure begins to take shape.
Meanwhile, Life Support Systems (LSS) piping installation is actively progressing, which will supply the Bird Island and Freshwater Ray pools with clean water. Foundation block will continue once steel erection is complete for the back-of-house areas.
Once low-roof steel and decking are complete, additional trades will be cleared to advance underground and in-wall rough-in work in those areas — a decision that reflects the commitment to safety and the “Safeguarding Families” mentality. By ensuring overhead work is complete and conditions are right before opening up those areas, the team continues to prioritize the well-being of every worker, patron, and staff member on and around the site.
Perhaps most impressively, the project remains on schedule — no small feat given challenging weather conditions and the complexity of sequencing work in close proximity to an active Science Center, its patrons, staff, and a busy construction environment. The coordination and professionalism being demonstrated across all teams is a true testament to everyone involved.
