October Update / 2025
Progress Overview
Expedition Rainforest continues to make great progress with several significant milestones achieved this month, including the pouring of the first biodome footings and completion of underground utility infrastructure. Construction activities across the site are proceeding efficiently, with work progressing in multiple areas simultaneously. The Restroom & SKYWILD Building is approximately 50% complete, demonstrating steady progress towards turning over this component of the project.
Underground Utilities
Significant progress has been made on the project’s underground utility infrastructure. Storm and sanitary sewer systems are now approximately 90% complete, establishing the critical groundwork for the facility’s operational systems. In a carefully coordinated effort to minimize impact on the Science Center’s daily operations, the water tap installation under Lawndale Drive was successfully executed during nighttime hours. This strategic scheduling ensured uninterrupted service to visitors and staff while completing essential infrastructure work.
Current + Upcoming Activities
Active construction operations are currently focused on several key areas. Grading and utility work continues across the site, establishing proper elevations and installing necessary utility connections.
A major project milestone was achieved on October 7th with the pouring of the first footings for the Biodome structure. This represents a pivotal step forward in bringing this signature architectural feature to life. Along the North elevation of the building, excavation work is underway, and crews are currently engaged in the installation of steel reinforcing for footings and foundations in this area, laying the structural groundwork for the building’s vertical construction.
Foundations will continue in the upcoming months as the immense amount of concrete required to support the Biodome structure is poured. The project team remains committed to maintaining this positive momentum as we transition into the next phases of construction.
